ELT Lienholder Codes for Automotive Lien Titling

On this page: ELT by State  |  by Lender

Automotive ELT lienholder codes are unique identifiers assigned to banks who have a titling claim on a motor vehicle that is used as collateral for a car loan payment.
Electronic Lien and Titling (ELT) codes are assigned by the DMV in participating states to facilitate communication and documentation related to the lien.

ELT Codes are issued by state and by lender. For example, Ally will have different ELT Codes for Texas and California.

These lienholder codes are entered into DMV titling databases when vehicle tag fees are posted to ensure the lender’s collateral is secured.

The ELT process saves time and taxpayer money by eliminating the need to print and maintain paper titles until the lien is paid.
