Ford Warranty Options

Cost & Coverage Review

What is the warranty on a new Ford?

The standard Ford Factory Warranty is 3 years or 36,000 miles from the original purchase date of the first owner.

After this full coverage expires, the powertrain warranty continues for another 2 years or 24,000 miles.

Ford offers four different factory warranty options for customers who want to have longer plans: Premium, Extra, Base, and Powertrain.

What do the different Ford Factory Warranty Options cover?

Premium

Premium Care is Ford’s best plan.

It covers parts and labor for repairs on over one thousand items.

The plan will pay to fix the engine, transmission, drive axel, steering, air conditioning, suspension, electronics, audio, and high-tech items.

The only things not covered are parts generally covered by auto insurance (like body damages, windshield cracks, wheel scuffs), maintenance items (like brake pads, wheel alignments, manual clutch), and trim wear (like carpet, molding, and cosmetics).

Extra

Ford Extra Care has a coverage list similar to Premium but does not cover nearly as many items within each component category.

Ford states this level of protection offers repairs on 113 major components, as compared to over 1,000 items from their best plan.

Base

Engine, transmission, drive axel, steering, air conditioning, and some electrical items are included with the 84 components covered under the Base plan.

Powertrain

29 engine and transmission components.

Is the Ford Extended Warranty transferable?

Yes.

You may transfer your plan to the next owner when you sell your Ford by mailing a transfer request and a $75 transfer fee ($40 in Florida) payable to the Administrator within 180 days of the sale.

Where can I buy the Ford Extended Warranty?

Insider tip:

Buy Ford Premium Care from your local dealer.
Ratings are higher for owners who buy the extended warranty from the same dealer they intend to return to for repairs.

All dealers adhere to a retention plan monitored by Ford with 100% satisfaction guaranteed.

Call Ford directly at 800.392.3673 if you are not completely satisfied.

How much is the repair copay?

Each option has four choices of deductible copay: $200, $100, $50, and $0.

The $0 copay seems like the best choice but may not be worth the difference in upfront cost.

The $100 copay costs about $600 less to purchase. After the copay, Ford picks up the bill for the remaining cost and gives you a car to drive while you wait for the repair.

Considering this, F&I Tools analysts consider the $100 copay Ford Premium Warranty Option with 7 years 125,000 miles of coverage the best value for the price.

Where will repairs be done?

Owners are recommended to return to the selling dealer for repairs.

The service department will verify the parts are listed as covered components before work begins.

After the dealer ensures Ford will pay the bill, the dealership will honor the repair. If you cannot return to the selling dealer, or if you don't feel you are getting satisfactory service, then you may visit other Ford dealerships to request repairs.

If the individual dealerships are unable to address the problem, or if they cannot verify component coverage, then you may contact the manufacturer at this phone number:
