What is the standard GMC warranty?

GMC Factory Warranty is 3 years or 36,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper repair coverage including all breakdowns except normal wear items and routine maintenance.

​The engine warranty extends beyond the bumper-to-bumper warranty, but differs by engine type.​

The gas engine warranty is 5 years or 60,000 miles. The DuraMax diesel engine warranty for 2500 and 3500 trucks is 5 years or 100,000 miles.

What does the GMC Extended Warranty cover?

The GMC Platinum Warranty covers the engine, turbocharger, transfer case, steering, adaptive cruise control, power windows, heated seats, electronics, fuel pump, water pump, radiator, and everything else except items explicitly listed as exclusions on the contract.

What is the best extended car warranty?

The exclusionary plan is the best warranty because it tells you exactly what is not covered.

For example, if you buy a warranty that INCLUDES a list of 500 items, it may seem like a lot, but a vehicle has about 5,000 parts.

​That means 4,500 parts are not covered.

If you buy a warranty that EXCLUDES 100 items then you know 4,900 parts are covered.

​Therefore, the best warranty is the one that tells you what is not covered — the exclusionary extended car warranty.

When does it begin and end?

The GMC extended warranty begins when the bumper-to-bumper factory warranty expires and ends when the extended term or additional mileage is reached, whichever occurs first.

​GMC extended time and extra mileage is in addition to the 3 year 36,000 mile bumper-to-bumper factory warranty.

​For example, if you buy the 5 year 60,000 mile extension on a car with zero miles then you get 8 years or 96,000 miles of total coverage.

Does the GMC Platinum Extended Warranty transfer?

Yes.

You may transfer your GMC extended warranty to the next owner.

​Mail a copy of your original application page (see page 1 of Sample Plan), a transfer request, and a $75 transfer fee ($40 in Florida) payable to the Administrator within 30 days of the vehicle sale.

Where will repairs be done?

Repairs are performed by GMC factory-trained technicians in service departments at dealerships nationwide.

​A Service Advisor will order a diagnostic evaluation and issue a work order for covered malfunctions. Alternate transportation is provided during the repair for GMC Platinum policyholders.
