Tesla worldwide vehicle sales reached 935,000 vehicles for $47 billion in revenue last year. Unit volume increased 87% year over year, and profits increased 97%. Tesla had a breakout performance, boasting a 30% profit margin with revenue increasing at a rate faster than any automaker on the top 20 list.
Tesla profit margins remain high in 2022 but have been impacted by the inflation in raw material costs, increased shipping fees, and challenges in battery cell production. Despite these obstacles, Tesla's full year 2022 outlook is set for 1.3 million vehicles and entry into the top 15 global automakers by sales volume for the first time in company history. Tesla employs over 99,000 people worldwide and builds electric vehicles at 6 manufacturing plants in the US, China, and Germany. The profit displayed is gross profit in US dollars after the cost of materials is subtracted, but before administrative fees. |
