Discrepancy in Numbers

Pinpointing sold vehicles per country per year is not as simple as it may sound. We end up with ballpark numbers due to many factors:

  • Are we counting fleet vehicles sold to businesses and rental companies in our list?

  • Are we including heavy duty trucks in the list?

  • Should Europe be considered in total, or should we consider each individual country within Europe separately?

  • Should we list parent companies, or only list the brands they own?

  • Are we counting the amount of vehicles that are shipped to dealers or are we counting the number of new car registrations?

The goal is to count new vehicle registrations for automobiles purchased for personal use, but many other types of sales may end up in one set of data but not another.
